In writing many of these articles through the years, many of the businesses that I have interviewed talk of future planned improvements. However, when I arranged to interview Pablo Vasquez about April Plaza Marina, he insisted on doing this only when he could talk about the improvements that had actually been made.

“When I purchased April Plaza Marina as a family business with my wife Carmen in October, 2010 we knew that April Plaza Marina had a long history on Lake Conroe. Carmen and I realized that the marina and the Lake Conroe area had great potential, but the marina had received damage from Hurricane Ike and in general needed a big upgrade. My career is in the construction industry, which has allowed us to create the vision to make the marina outstanding. Although there are always future things to do, today I only want to talk about the things that we have done.

“All of the boat slips are now in great shape. All slips are covered, with three sizes to choose from: 10’ x 20’, 12’ x 24’ and 12’ x 30’. The docks have electricity, a gated entry, insect misting services, pump out services, restrooms and water. We have emphasized safety in this remodeling. We also feature a public boat launch that even with the low lake levels, is fully accessible to Lake Conroe. Because of our address on Hwy. 105 West between April Sound and Walden, many feel our location is the most convenient on the lake.

“The rooms in the motel have also been completely updated and guests comment on how clean and comfortable they now are. The swimming pool has been spiffed up and is in great shape and the office and convenience store have had many improvements as well. We make sure that the store is always fully stocked.

“The biggest news at April Plaza Marina is the opening of the new Pueblo Viejo on the Lake restaurant in early July. The restaurant is owned by my friend, George Losono, who has very successful restaurants in Cleveland and Livingston. George features delicious Mexican food prepared with traditional Mexican recipes. Pueblo Viejo will have full liquor service, an outside bar and dining area and boat docks for those who want to come in off of Lake Conroe. Although there are many restaurants in the area, there are only a few that sit right on the water. Pueblo Viejo will be a restaurant the entire family will enjoy.

“Although April Plaza Marina has a strong fishing tradition that we will continue, Carmen and I want to continue our vision of making April Plaza Marina a destination for families.”
