When McKenzie’s Burgers opened on Walden Road in Montgomery, it quickly became a hub of activity where the Montgomery community gathered. Certainly many people were familiar with the McKenzie’s locations in Conroe and Huntsville, but newcomers quickly learned to enjoy the good food and family atmosphere. Owner Darin McKenzie says that when they opened for business in Montgomery, they reversed approaches on how their food menus were introduced to the public.

“We have been in Conroe for sixteen years, and we started out just selling barbeque. Later, we expanded next door and began selling hamburgers. When we came to Montgomery, we sold burgers first, and due to popular demand from our customers, we have now introduced our full barbeque menu to the Montgomery store.

“The secret to our barbeque is hard work and slow cooking. I get up every day at 3:30 a.m. and begin to cook the barbeque for the day. The briskets, however, cook all night and take 18-22 hours to cook. Our process isn’t complicated, we simply start with quality foods and take time in their preparations

“We love the fact that all of our locations have become very family and community oriented. We often have large groups of people who meet up before going out to a ball game. Then often we see sports teams come in to eat with us. We enjoy having groups and parties and feature a private room at our Conroe location. We feel very blessed that things have worked out so well and that we now have three locations.

“With the three locations, McKenzie’s is convenient to everyone in the greater Lake Conroe area. A lot of people forget that the north end of Lake Conroe is only a few minutes from Huntsville. And certainly the Montgomery and Conroe locations are easy distances from any part of the lake. Come check us out and enjoy our award-winning barbeque and burgers.”
