It is probably a Texas thing, but the largest privately owned residential pool was recently completed near here in El Campo, Texas. The pool was built by Mirage Custom Pools of Conroe, which is located in the Lake Conroe area. Owned by Rick and Cheryl Kuykendall, Mirage Custom Pools of Conroe has many years of experience building pools that are a little less dynamic, but all of their pools share the common theme of very high standards of both engineering and mechanical structure.

     As for the biggest swimming pool in the world, Cheryl says it was built for the Mobley family in El Campo. “They had approached us to do the construction work from designs that had already been completed by another company. But Rick and I just felt like we could do a better design for them. They agreed to listen and ended up choosing our design and we did the construction work as well. The pool is 15,000 sq. ft., with a running river 3500 ft. long. The salt system was custom made in Australia. It holds over 400,000 gallons of water so that we had to bring in water tankers to fill it. The Mobley’s acquired the Thunder River sign that was at Astroworld, which now marks the entrance to the Lazy River. The pool also features an outdoor kitchen, a swim up bar, and palm trees from Florida. I have researched the internet a great deal, and although there are larger commercial pools, we cannot find a larger private residential pool.”
